EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK
IT'S MY FIRST TIME GOING TO THERAPY. WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
In the first session, we'll go over some basic information about you and what brings you in. You can ask any questions. You might also get a feel for whether we make a good fit.
In general, therapy is a place where you can explore whatever is troubling you. To do this, I may ask evocative questions to reflect on. I may prompt you to notice your internal state (thoughts, emotions, or body sensations). I may offer suggestions on activities that may bolster your healing process. Whatever the process is, therapy will always be collaborative and exploratory.
IS VIRTUAL THERAPY AS EFFECTIVE AS IN-PERSON THERAPY?
Research says... yes! According to a 2013 study, researchers found mental health services delivered via telehealth platforms, such as video conferencing, to be comparable to in-person care.
As we're learning during this pandemic, nothing replaces in-person social interaction. But, we do our best to develop a connection and have the same process as we would in-person. Most clients have reported benefiting from teletherapy; some prefer video while others choose phone. We will work together to find a remote solution that works best for you!
